Adam Simon Berndt, beloved son, husband, brother, father, cherished uncle and friend passed away in Dover, New Hampshire on April 21, 2026.
Adam was born in North Carolina on October 15, 1980, and was the son of Ronald and Ronni Berndt. Adam lived a life full of curiosity of all things. He also loved sport; specifically, the Carolina Tar Heels, the Seattle Seahawks, and the New York Yankees. Adam found peace in the outdoors. He loved to push the limits in all walks of his life.
Adam graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University in 2004, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. In 2010 Adam graduated from Seattle University School of Law with a Juris Doctorate. His main field of study was family law. Ultimately, he chose to work in the recovery field as a recovery coach and as an advocate for those battling addiction.
He loved to travel, have great adventures and relished getting lost wherever he went. He loved exotic foods, country cooking and sweet tea. He was kind to everyone he met and treated everyone with respect, no matter their lifestyle. His mantra was a quote of Thomas Paine: “The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.”
He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Ronni Berndt; his wife and best friend, Sarah Richard Berndt and their daughter, Abigail Rose, the absolute delight of his eye; his beloved sister, Alisa Icenhour, and brother-in-law, Ryan; his niece, Sarah, and nephew, Bradley, whom he loved fiercely; his aunts, Terri Berndt and Debbie Kaufman; his cousins, Emily Sullivan (Christopher) and their children, Rosie and Zev, Michael Sullivan, and Jamie Baker (Pete) and their children, Willow and Leo. He is also remembered by his in-laws, Charles and Susan Richard; sister-in-law, Jean Mackey (Kevin) and their children Owen, Aiden, and Maddy.
There are countless names of people, friends and neighbors who crossed Adam’s path. He made an impression on all of them and he will never be forgotten.
Memorial services will be held in both North Carolina and Massachusetts.
A celebration of life will take place in Hickory, North Carolina, at Adam’s childhood home, on May 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
Family and friends may also honor and remember Adam’s life by gathering for a Funeral Mass in St. Margaret Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 800 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Adam’s memory may be made to his beloved daughter Abigail Rose’s education fund.
