Alfred J. 'Buddy' Johnson

January 19, 1934 — September 8, 2024

Weymouth, MA

Weymouth - Mr. Alfred J. Johnson, formerly of Quincy, Milton, and Dorchester, died peacefully on September 8, 2024, at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family.

Buddy was the beloved husband of Jenny (Packowski) Johnson for 64 years. He was the loving father of Christine Rindini and her husband Robert Ennis (predeceased by son-in-law Riccardo Rindini) of Pembroke; Joseph Johnson and his wife Sarah of Groton; and Andrea O’Connor and her husband Tim of Milton.

Buddy was the devoted “Grampy” to Alexa Rindini, her husband Kyle Devenish, and great-grandson Rowan; Matthew Rindini and his wife Lindsay Sher; Noelle and Alissa Johnson; and Maggie and Molly O’Connor.

Buddy was the son of the late Helen (Sullivan) Johnson, late Alfred Johnson and brother to Virginia Steadman of South Boston. Buddy is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Buddy was born and raised in South Boston and Dorchester. After graduating from Malden Catholic high school, Buddy proudly served in the US Army in the 1950s. During and after his service, he mastered the craft of the printing press and the printing industry, which grew into a sixty-year career, finally retiring at the age of 80. Shortly after leaving the Army, Buddy met the love of his life at the St. Mary’s Club in South Boston. Buddy and Jenny married in 1960. They continued to attend events at the St. Mary’s Club and were active in St. Mary’s Parish in South Boston. You would always find Buddy and Jenny on the dance floor. At these events Buddy and Jenny met friends that lasted a lifetime. Buddy and Jenny raised their three children in Dorchester and later in Milton, MA. Family was everything to Buddy, and his love and devotion to his family was one of his defining legacies.

Buddy was an avid candlepin bowler and a proud member of the Cunningham Men’s Bowling League and the Kupples Klub Bowling League in Milton. He loved golf, played in many leagues and with his son. He loved spending time with his family on Lake Winnisquam at the helm of his pontoon boat, the SS Babci. Jenny and Buddy were avid travelers and loved to go on cruises and see the world. Buddy had an incredible gift for storytelling and brought smiles and laughter to everyone around him. Buddy was a devote Catholic, a lifelong Boston sports fan, and a friend to everyone he met.

The Johnson family would like to express their gratitude to the Allerton House, South Shore Hospital, and Old Colony Hospice for their compassionate care over the past few months.
