It is with sadness and gratitude that we announce Ann Lakschewitz Sheehan of Boston and Nantucket, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2018.
Recently Ann wrote "I am blessed to have so many special people in my life." Yet we were the ones blessed by her presence in our lives, her generosity of love and her model of a faith-filled life. Raised in Belmont MA by her parents George and Margaret Lakschewitz. Ann relished her summers in Southport, Maine growing up with her brothers, Paul Lakschewitz of Los Angeles CA and the late George Lakschewitz. A graduate of St. Luke's School, Belmont MA, Mount Trinity Academy, Watertown MA and Saint Joseph's College, Standish ME, Ann married her devoted and loving husband of 47 years, William Joseph Sheehan on July 3, 1971. Together, they were blessed with two children, Emily and Bill, with whom they enjoyed traveling, sailing, skiing and summering in Nantucket. Today, Emily and Carlo Lopez of Marblehead, MA with their two children, Nicholas and Margaret, and Bill and Liz Sheehan of Fairfield, CT with their daughters Louise and Katherine, recall their "Nanie" with fond affection for the countless ways she showered them with her love, attention and readiness for fun. Always a great listener, Ann will be remembered for making each person she knew feel loved in her presence. Any event in a friend's life was always greeted with a hand written card or note from Ann.
Her value of education was demonstrated by her elementary school teaching at the West Vine Street School in Stonington CT, her many years teaching at Tower School in Marblehead MA and her commitment in teaching religious education classes at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Swampscott MA. As Dr. Maya Angelou remarked, "People will forget what you said, will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. " Annie had a remarkable gift of making you feel special and for that we will all be forever grateful.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ann's life by gathering for visiting hours in Saint Cecilia Church, 18 Belvidere Street, Boston, on Thursday, August 16th, from 4-8 a.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Saint Cecilia Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Women's Lunch Place, 67 Newbury Street, Boston MA 02116 or A Faith That Does Justice, www.faith-justice.org , or St. Boniface Haiti Foundation. www.haitihealth.org .
