Carole Eulene Wiken was born to Bobbie and Ray McCullough (but desperately loved by her step father, Larry), along with brothers Dan and Brian and her little sister Roseanna. She is survived by her children Jason, Spring and Jenna… and then later Keith and Dale. There are also a ton of uncles, aunts and cousins, whom she loved.
Carole was a nerd, in the best way; she loved stories and had a great imagination. She loved books, so many books, so much so that she raised a generation of readers. We would swap books and talk for hours about the plots and how exciting those worlds were. I would find her crying sometimes and ask her which character met a bad end, and I would remember that I cried at that part as well. It was shared fantasy/sci-fi/horror worlds that we loved being in together. Her other great love was Godzilla, everything Godzilla. It was defining for her. We would watch Saturday TV shows called “creature double feature” and relish in the cheesy but engrossing world of monsters. We could never walk away when Lord of the Rings was on cable for the 25th time.
Everywhere Carole lived, she nested and made small kitschy domiciles for herself, like building a comfy den to then enter those fantasy worlds with a good book, or maybe watch those dumb lawn mowing videos on YouTube. Her self-sufficiency was always evident; she was strong and proud. Cribbage was her game. She loved strongly and was loved even more so in return. She is at peace.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local no-kill animal shelter, she loved dogs and cats fiercely.
Family and friends will honor and remember Carole's life by gathering for a memorial visitation in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.
