BIGELOW, Charles "Bob". A lifelong resident of Clam Point, Dorchester, February 7th. Beloved husband of Bernice "Claire" (Gillis). Loving brother of Evan H. and his wife Barbara Bigelow of FL and the late Audrey Brinson. Brother-in-law of Chester Brinson of FL. Devoted uncle of David Bigelow of Sharon, Donald and his wife Novel Bigelow of Lowell, Wendy and her husband Lawrence Ostrowski of OH, Thomas and his wife Kathy Kirkaldy of Marshfield, and Gary and his companion Hope Brinson of MI. Funeral Service in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, Monday morning, February 12, at 10 A.M. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 P.M. Relatives and friends invited. During his career in the U.S. Navy, he saw action in Korea and Vietnam, participated in the Cuban picket ships and the recovery of the Gemini space capsules. After his Navy retirement, he was employed as a motorman on the Red Line of the MBTA. He was a past Commander of Neponset VFW Post 5834, a member of the James J. Rice Amvets Post 28, Old Dorchester American Legion Post 65, Army Navy Union U.S.A., Fleet Reserve Assoc., Dorchester Allied Veterans Council, and the Carmen's Union Local #589. An avid railroad enthusiast, Bob worked on the "Freedom Train" when it toured Massachusetts during the Bi-Centennial, was a founder of the Hoosac Tunnel Museum (now the North Adams Historical Society), a member of the Berkshire Scenic Railroad, Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts, Seashore Trolley Museum, Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum, Boston & Maine Railroad Historical Society, and the 470 Railroad Club. His knowledge and love of railroading served him well as a member of the Dorchester Allied Neighborhood Associations' Old Colony Railroad Committee, Red Line Noise Abatement Committee, and Neponset River Bridge Committee. He was a member and former President of the Massachusetts Delta Radio Club and a member of the Massachusetts Sideband Assoc. He was an Incorporator of the Dorchester Day Parade Committee and served two terms as its Treasurer. He was elected and served as the Chief Marshall of the Dorchester Day Parade in 1995. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 187 Columbus Ave., Boston, MA 02116. Interment in Bourne National Cemetery at 12:30 P.M.
