Of Braintree, formerly of Poland, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on September 28, 2022.
Beloved wife of the late Bronisław Nowak.
Loving mother of Halina Haluch of Poland, Stanisława Wojewodzic of Dorchester, Józef and his wife Agata Nowak of Poland, Małgorzata and her husband Piotr Gubała of Maynard, Maria and her husband Miroslaw Szelest of Worcester, Tadeusz and his wife Beata Nowak of Braintree, and the late Stasiu and Tadziu.
Sister of Józefa Janik of Poland, and of the late Barbara Surówka and Krystyna Klimek.
Devoted “Babcia” of 19 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Czesława was a kind, caring, and strong woman who was the center of her family’s lives. The family gathered at her home in Braintree every Sunday for home cooked meals, including her famous homemade pierogi. Everyone enjoyed listening to her wisdom and life-advice. She came to America with exactly 2 dollars to her name, and through her hard work and sacrifice was able to help her entire family and others in need. Her grandchildren’s education was very important to her, she was very proud to come from nothing and see every graduation from kindergarten to college.
Czesława was a very religious and generous woman, a beloved member of Our Lady of Częstochowa Parish in South Boston as well as St. Francis Parish of Braintree. She was a regular at the 7 am mass at St. Francis. She donated annually to St. Jude’s Children Hospital to honor the memory of her two deceased children. She sent packages of clothes, school supplies, and toys to orphanages in Poland and Ukraine. She was an avid and talented gardener, who grew many flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees around her home. She enjoyed spending quiet summer mornings on the porch amongst the flowers eating breakfast.
She died in her home after a 3-month battle with cancer, surrounded by her family, their love, and many prayers.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jessie’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 655 Dorchester Avenue, South Boston, on Wednesday morning, October 5th, at 10:00 A.M.
Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West Street, Braintree, MA 02184.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jessie’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
May she rest in peace.
