Donald Edward Blake

BLAKE, Ret. Donald Edward BFD. Age 83, of West Roxbury passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on the morning of August 10, 2018, after a long illness.

Don was born in 1935 in Boston, where he was raised by his parents, John and Sarah (Cashin) Blake. He grew up in Roxbury and Dorchester, and later joined the US Army. He was a respected member of the Boston Fire Department.

After meeting his wife, Mary C. (Devine) Blake, he settled in Quincy where they raised their family. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish where his daughters attended school. They later moved to Scituate where they enjoyed many happy years by the ocean, his favorite place.

Don enjoyed working with his hands and was a talented carpenter and home inspector. He loved watching his Patriots and Red Sox games, but was happiest surrounded by his family, who adored him more than anything. He bursted with pride over them, his proudest accomplishment.

Donald is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary, four daughters, Kristine Donoghue and her husband, Chris, of Attleboro, Kerrin O'Connor and her husband, Brian, of Franklin, Maryellen (Maisie) O'Leary and her husband, Michael, of West Roxbury, and Colleen McCarthy of Norwood. He's the beloved grandfather of Brendan, Kolbe, Celia, Frankie, Sean, Jack, Blake, Ava and Jarrod Donald (JD). He is predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
Don's family would like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Lotty Menard for her loving care, as well as the Hope Hospice team. We are eternally grateful.

Family and friends will honor and remember Don's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester on Tuesday, August 14th from 4-8pm.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Margaret Church of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 800 Columbia Road, Dorchester, on Wednesday morning, August 15th at 10am.

Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.

Relatives and friends warmly invited.
