Dorothy D. Baker

December 17, 1952 — May 2, 2023

Dorchester

Of Dorchester, born  December 17, 1952 and died May 2, 2023 after a brief illness.

Devoted and beloved Mum of Lauren Chatelle Baker of Dorchester.

Loving daughter of the late John V. Baker and Eileen M. (O’Connor) Baker

Cherished sister of Florence and her husband John of Houston, Stephen T. and Andrea, Mary E., Thomas, Vincent A. and his wife Yuko, James M. and his wife Jill, Joseph and his wife Kathy, Francis K. and his wife Today and Dawn E., all of Dorchester, as well as the late John V. Jr., Richard D., and R. Louis and his wife Maryann.

Dorothy was also predeceased by her nieces Brooke J. and Rachel A.

Survived and remembered by 37 adoring nieces and nephews, and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews.

As the second oldest of thirteen (and oldest daughter), Dorothy became a beloved second mother for all her younger siblings. She embodied care and compassion and was always there for her brothers and sisters. She was a wonderful example of what it is to be a maternal figure in a young person’s life.

Dorothy was happiest when she was with her nieces and nephews.  She was the favorite Auntie Dottie as she always had the best candy and ice cream. She had a love of music, especially disco, soul and R&B.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Margaret Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 800 Columbia Road, Dorchester, on Wednesday morning, May 10, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.

Interment will be private.

Our family would like to thank the nurses at the Carney hospital’s ICU and 7th Floor, Boston Medical Center’s 3W and 7W. Dorothy received such kind, loving care at both hospitals.
