Gary S. Grimes

Of Milton, formerly of Scituate, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025 at 82 years of age surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved son of the late Lawrence and Charlotte (Krews) Grimes, and stepson of Marion Grimes, Gary was born in Scotia, NY in 1942.

Gary is survived by his wife of 39 years Susan (O’Donnell) Grimes, his sons Spencer of Old Saybrook, CT and Terence of Berkeley, CA, and daughter Ashley of Los Angeles, CA. Loving grandfather to Otto and Angus Grimes of Madison, CT.

Loving brother of Kathe Elson (and her late husband Danny) of Arizona. Lauren (Winnie) Youmans and her husband Richard of Southwick. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Niskayuna HS in Schenectady, NY, he received his bachelors degree from Alfred University and his MBA from Syracuse University. Gary began his career at Corning Glass before moving on to General Dynamics, Corp. where he swiftly rose through the ranks, becoming Vice President, as well as General Manager of the Quincy Shipyard. While at GD, he was involved in pioneering the transportation of Liquified Natural Gas to the United States.

Outside of the office, Gary had a love of photography and was an avid home videographer. He relished spending hours outside gardening. In the summers he golfed with his wife and his friends at Hatherly Country Club. In the winters he went skiing with his family at Attitash in Bartlett, NH. He enjoyed staying up late to watch Saturday Night Live with his kids. He was happiest listening to Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Paul Simon and Judy Collins, especially during family road trips in his Jeep Grand Wagoneer. He will be missed tremendously.

Funeral services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Donations in Gary’s memory may be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
