Geraldine “Gerry” A. (Harrington) McMahon, 87, of Quincy formerly of Dorchester and South Boston passed away peacefully surrounded by love on Tuesday May 5, 2026.
Born in South Boston on March 6, 1939, she was the devoted daughter of the late Gerald J. Harrington and Greta M. (O’Donoghue) Harrington. After graduating from Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston, Gerry married her loving husband the late William J. McMahon and raised a family in Saint Margaret’s Parish in Dorchester.
Loving mother of William and his wife Maragaret McMahon of Dorchester, Brian and his wife Susan McMahon of Dorchester, Eileen and her husband Martin Conroy of Quincy, James McMahon and his late wife Patricia McMahon of Pembroke, Gerard “Jay” and his wife Donna McMahon of Dorchester, and Kevin McMahon and his fiancé Joan Jones of Dorchester.
Sister of the late James and his wife Lorraine Harrington, Kathleen Delaney and John Harrington. Sister-in-law of Richard Delaney of Hanover.
Cherished “Gram” and “Nana Gerry” of Elizabeth McMahon, Lauren McMahon, Teresa McMahon, William McMahon and his wife Caitlin McMahon, Cameron and his wife Savanah McMahon, Brian McMahon, Martin Conroy, Kathleen Conroy, Michael McMahon, John McMahon, Caitlyn McMahon, Colleen McMahon, Daniel McMahon, and James.
Gerry is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
As a devoted mother and grandmother, Gerry will be fondly remembered as easy-going and kind, quick to laugh while enjoying the company of family and friends at her family home on Crescent Avenue in Dorchester where the door was always open, the kettle always on and all were welcome. A woman of quiet and strong faith, Gerry was known for her deep love and devotion to Saint Jude with family and friends often requesting to be included on her “prayer list” to Saint Jude. She was a blessing to all and will be dearly missed.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Gerry’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Margaret Church of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish on Thursday morning, May 14, 2026, at 10:00 A.M.
Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry’s memory may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org, or to South Boston Special Kids and Young Adults, P.O. Box 270731, South Boston, MA, 02127.
