A proud lifelong resident of Dorchester, died September 20, 2023.

Beloved father of Tara J. O’Connor of North Berwick, Maine, and Sean L. O’Connor and his wife Kristian L. Jeffrey of West Roxbury, and their mother Patricia A. (Lynch) O’Connor of Boynton Beach, Florida.

Cherished “Papa” of Stephanie Morin, and Timothy Morin and his wife Karena.

Great-grandfather of Aiden Morin and Meli Kalima.

Son of the late Dennis Valentine O’Connor and Hannah (Tobin) O’Connor.

Brother of Patricia and her husband Robert Tuohy of Mashpee, Dorothy and her husband Francis Spring of Falmouth, and the late Dennis O’Connor Jr., Mary Niedzialkowski, Catherine Bullock, Josephine McNiece, Paul O’Connor, Francis O’Connor, Marjorie Alter, Joseph O’Connor, and Daniel “Buddy” O’Connor.

Survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins, and predeceased by his beloved dog Rory.

Family and friends will honor and remember Gerard’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Monday, September 25, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Margaret Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, on Tuesday morning, September 26th, at 10:00 A.M.

Burial will follow in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.

Gerard was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong State employee, working as Administrative Director at Boston State Hospital, and then as Director of Facilities Management and Capital Development at University of Mass., Boston. He also volunteered as a former President of the Board of Directors at the Col. Daniel J. Marr Boys & Girls Club in Dorchester.

After retirement, Gerard enjoyed traveling. He was fortunate enough to have visited six of the seven continents, including living abroad for several years in Barcelona, Spain. He loved cooking, listening to classical music, the Arts, politics, and his Irish Heritage.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerard’s memory may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester, 1135 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA 02125.
