LEWIS, James "Bird". In Dorchester, died April 22, 2019, after a battle with cancer which he fought with the heart of a warrior.
Cherished husband of Jill M. (Skinner) Lewis.
Son of Mary S. (Cardile) Lewis of Dorchester and the late Henry "Bumpsey" Lewis.
Loving father of James Lewis and Brendan Lewis, both of Dorchester. Beloved Papa of Rayne. Brother of Thomas and his wife Patrice Lewis of Rockland, JoAnn and her husband Brian Egan of Braintree, Scott and his wife Kerry Lewis of Weymouth, and Pamela and her husband Art Baker of Leyden, MA.
Son-in-law of Margaret Skinner of Dorchester.
Brother-in-law of Robert "Duka" and his wife Lisa Skinner of Weymouth and Michael and his wife Stephanie Skinner of Dorchester.
Survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bird's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Thursday, April 25, from 4-8 P.M.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Margaret Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish on Friday morning, April 26, at 10 A.M.
Interment will be private.
Bird was a member of the Carmen's Union Local #2054, working for AMTRAK. He was an accomplished mechanic, carpenter, and artist, and was willing to lend a hand to anyone who asked. Bird was also an avid Boston Bruins and New England Patriots fan. He especially enjoyed playing horseshoes, softball, and golf with his large extended family.
