NANCE, James J.- A longtime St. John's Preparatory School world languages and social studies teacher, of Jamaica Plain, formerly of Brookline and Washington DC, died March 2, 2019, after a period of declining health since his retirement last September, age 67 years.
Beloved son of the late James B. and Joan T. (McGivern) Nance.
Brother of Terrence Nance of Minnesota, David Nance and Stephen Nance, both of Florida, Joanne Lafon and Matthew Nance, both of Maryland, and the late Francis Nance.
Survived by many nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jim's life by gathering for visiting hours at Kennealy Commons in The Brother Keefe Academic Center at St. John's Preparatory School, 72 Spring Street, Danvers, on Friday, March 8, from 4-8 P.M.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in The Chapel of St. John's Preparatory in the Administration Building on Saturday, March 9, at 1:30 P.M.
Interment will be private.
A graduate of The College of the Holy Cross, Class of '73, Mr. Nance taught at St. Columbkille High School in Brighton for a number of years prior to his position at St. John's Prep, where he was a mainstay of the Prep community for 33 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the James Nance Memorial Fund at St. John's Prep, c/o Advancement, 72 Spring St., Danvers, MA 01923 or online at www.stjohnsprep.org/nance.
