John R. Butts

Of Milton, formerly of Dorchester, died February 4, 2024.

Beloved husband of Vivian C. (Jurevitch) Butts.

Loving father of David M. and his wife Jacqueline Butts of Milton, Christine and her husband Michael Vardaro of Dorchester, and Stacy and her husband Scott Sherlock of Braintree.

Brother of the late Maurietta O’Brien.

Devoted “Papa” of Steven, Caroline, and Olivia Butts, Adam, Anna, Jonathan, and Jenna Vardaro, Nicole, Ashley, and Vivian Sherlock.

Family and friends will honor and remember John’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton, on Saturday morning, February 10^th, at 10:30 A.M.

Burial will follow in Milton Cemetery.

John was a retired grounds supervisor at Boston State Hospital and later Massachusetts Institute of Technology for many years. He was a longtime active member of St. Agatha Parish. He was an avid golfer, but especially enjoyed tending to his garden at his home.
