Sean Colm Coleman Seoighe as Oileán Inis Barra, Contae na Gaillimhe- John Joyce of Dorchester, formerly Inishbarra, Co. Galway, Ireland, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on May 17, 2026.
Beloved husband of the late Eileen B. (Connolly) Joyce.
Loving father of Paul T. McHugh of Dorchester, John J. Joyce Jr. and his wife Christine Joyce of Dorchester, David M. and his wife Colleen Joyce of Stoughton, and the late Evelyn McHugh Carney and her late husband Ronald Carney, Michael A. Joyce and Patrick G. Joyce.
Son of the late Coleman and Ellen Joyce.
Devoted “Papa” of Danielle McHugh and her husband Joseph Opanesetts, Meghan and her husband Matt Pohl, Kaleigh and her husband Joseph Campo, Michael Carney, Ryan Joyce, John Joyce, Matthew Joyce, Colin Joyce, Chloe McHugh, and Liam Joyce.
Great-grandfather of Madison, Olivia, Evelyn, Emma, Victoria, and Brendan.
Brother of Annie Coyne of Ireland, Nellie McDonough of Ireland, Kate Page of New Hampshire, and the late Mary Kilmartin, Peggy Joyce, Martin Joyce, Brige Joyce, Nora Joyce, Barbara Nee, and Sara Corcoran.
Brother-in-law of Kathleen Folan of Ireland, and the late Barbara O’Brien and Maire Folan.
John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember John’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mark Church, 1725 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, on Thursday morning, May 28, 2026, at 10:00 A.M.
Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale.
John was a retired pressman for the Boston Globe, where he worked for 39 years. He was Past President of the Boston Irish Currach Rowing Club. John will be remembered for his constant involvement in many fundraising activities to assist those newly immigrating from Ireland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to The Irish Pastoral Centre, 540 Gallivan Boulevard, Dorchester, MA 02124.
