Joseph J. "Joe" Malloy

Of Beverly Farms, beloved husband of the late Joan B. (O’Hara) Malloy and son of the late Patrick and Sara (Gibbons) Malloy, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on November 5, 2025, at the age of 101 years.

Joe was a lifelong resident of Beverly Farms and a member of the inaugural class at St. Margaret’s School. He graduated from Beverly High School in 1942 and, at age 18, was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II.

Following his training, Joe was stationed in England as troops prepared to board ships for D-Day. His outfit landed on Utah Beach on July 3, 1944, and advanced through Cherbourg, Normandy, before joining General Patton’s 106th Infantry, 3rd Army, on their campaign through Germany. On May 8, 1945, Germany surrendered, and on May 18th all POWs were released. Joe celebrated his 21st birthday the next day, on May 19.

After returning home, Joe worked at United Shoe before beginning a long and dedicated career with the City of Beverly as a Code Enforcer.

A proud veteran and devoted community member, Joe was an 80-year member of Post 113 American Legion in Manchester-by-the-Sea and the Union Club of Beverly, where he could often be found playing cards and enjoying a cigar, a beer, and his favorite Crown Royal.

Joe is survived by his loving children: Peter Malloy and his partner Linda, Kevin Malloy and Vicky, Joseph F. Malloy and Carol, Margaret Malloy, and Mark Malloy and Sherri; as well as his son-in-law, Ted Sanford, husband of his late daughter, Sally A. Malloy-Sanford.

He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Malloy.

Joe was the devoted “Pa” to his grandchildren: Tim Migneault and Madonna, Daniel Migneault and Amanda, Caitlin Robinson and Nick, Evan Malloy and Amanda, Emma Malloy and Alan, Morgan Malloy, Annabelle Malloy, Derek Malloy, Ryan Malloy, Makayla Byrd and Adam, Brooke Reilly and Tyler, and Amanda Smith; and cherished great-grandfather to Matthew, Mackenzie, Grace, Madelynn, Easton, Harbor, Heidi, Gemma, and Josie.

He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with his dear friend, Ron “Barky” Barkowski.

Joe was predeceased by his siblings, John M. Malloy and Grace, Patricia J. Keniff and Robert, and Mary M. Wilson and Richard, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis and Willamena O’Hara, Nora and George Woods, Kathleen and Edgar “Ed” Treacy, Elizabeth and Paul Murphy, Margaret and Adrian “Pete” Bouchard, Mary and Richard Cruddas, and Ann Caroline and Paul Ando.
