Judith "Judy" Marie Melody

Of Dorchester, Judy died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on July 27, 2026.

Beloved daughter of the late Bill and Jean (Bronowicki) Melody.

Loving sister of the late William Brian Melody, Elizabeth Gorham, Phillip Melody, and Jeannie and her husband Kevin O’Connor.

Sister-in-law of Marbella Melody of Florida and Barbara Melody of Eastham.

Cherished aunt of Fr. Chris O’Connor, Erin and her husband Scott Vadala, Jonathan O’Connor, William Melody, David Melody, Steven Melody, Patrick Melody, Michael Melody, and Jennifer Melody.

Great-aunt of Matthew, Christopher, Nicholas, Noah, Luna, and Oscar.

Family and friends will honor and remember Judy’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in The Cathedral of The Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street, Boston, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 12:00 noon.

Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale.

Judy attended St. Mary Polish Grammar School, followed by Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School, graduating in June of 1960. She entered the Sisters of Charity of Halifax in 1960. Her first mission was at St. Sylvester’s in Ozone Park, New York, where she spent four years, followed by three years at Our lady of Sorrows in Vancouver, B.C. She was then transferred to Seton Hall High School in Patchogue, Long Island, New York, from where she left religious service in 1974. Judy counted those years as the richest gift in her life.

She began her career as a proofreader for the New England Journal of Medicine, a job she truly loved. She continued this full time for two years, until she resumed her teaching career at Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School in Dorchester. During the following years, she spent her summers working part time as a proofreader at the N.E. Journal, and taught Social Studies and current events at MRM, until it closed its doors in 2003, for a total of thirty years of service. And she loved every minute of it.

One of her biggest joys in life was caring for and spending time with “The Valada Boys”, Matthew, Christopher, Nicholas, and Noah. Throughout her life, her faith was an integral part of her. Her motto was “God is good”. She will be dearly missed.
