BROWNE, Mary E. (Gill). In Dorchester, formerly of Ballyhip, Co. Mayo, Ireland, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on July 14, 2021.
Beloved wife of the late James J. Browne.
Loving mother of Thomas and his wife Sandra Browne of NH, Mary B. and her daughter Maura Browne, Anne and her husband John McCarthy, Brendan and his wife Jeanmarie Browne, all of Dorchester, Daniel and his wife Linda Browne of Billerica, Noreen and her husband Martin Tremblay of Barre, and Patrick and his wife Stacey Browne of Westford.
Sister of Rev. Patrick Gill of Louisburgh, Edward Gill and his family of England, Bernie Sweeney and her son Peter of Louisburgh, and the late Charlie Gill of Ballyhip.
Cherished "Nana" of James, Leslie, Anne, Brendan, Daniel T., Theresa, Daniel B., Jennifer, Stephen, Andrew, Emily, Hannah, Patrick, Ryan, Colleen, Michelle, adopted granddaughter Jillian and the late Christopher Tremblay.
Great-Grandmother of Esther, Gavin, Kellen, and Michael Francis.
Mary came to Boston in 1948 where she met and married the love of her life, Jim, in 1955. They were blessed with 50 years together. During her lifetime Mary enjoyed gardening, walking Castle Island, trips home to Mayo and vacationing on the Cape with her family. She shared her deep love for Ireland by ensuring her children and grandchildren were well versed in its history, music and culture. Her happiest days were those spent with her grandchildren whether it be cheering them on, sharing secrets at the stove or having a picnic at Sully's. She leaves behind her lasting legacy of faith, welcoming arms and love of family. Mary will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she has touched.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Wednesday, July 21st, from 4-8 P.M.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Agatha Church, 432 Adams St., Milton, on Thursday morning, July 22nd, at 10:30 A.M.
A private burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne with her late husband.
