Mary Ellen (Harkins) Pacitti, of Canton, a former longtime resident of the Savin Hill neighborhood in Dorchester died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. She was 69.
Mary Ellen was born on October 8, 1953, in Boston, a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Mary G. (Cheney) Harkins. Raised in South Boston she was married to Richard P. Pacitti on April 13, 1973. In addition to raising her children at home she worked as an administrative assistant for the Boston Edison Company for many years and later for the City of Boston before retiring.
Mary Ellen dedicated her life to her family and above all she was a loving, attentive, and proud mother and grandmother. Her life’s greatest joys came from caring for her children and her grandchildren; she enjoyed watching them grow and basked in their accomplishments. She was loved by all and the door to her home was always open. It was a place where family and friends alike felt at home and comfortable and it was commonplace for her children’s friends to stop by for a cup of coffee and a good conversation with Mary Ellen. She will be missed by many.
Mary Ellen’s husband, Richard, died on January 8, 2006, and it gives her family great comfort to know that she is now reunited with him.
She leaves her children, Richard J. Pacitti and his wife, Jennifer of Canton, Mark Pactti and his wife, Katie of Quincy, Matthew P. Pacitti and his companion, Stacie Milos of Braintree and Adrienne Pacitti of Canton; her grandchildren, Devin, Sophie, Joseph, Ava, John, Iyla, Bree, Ellie Mae and Marko; her siblings, Thomas L. Magner and his wife, Cathie of Plymouth, Barbara Greene and her husband, Joseph of South Boston, the late Eleanor Mello and her husband, the late Ernest Mello and the late Joseph R. Harkins; sister-in-law of John Pacitti and his wife, Linda of Pensacola, Florida, Gail Hobin and her companion, Gil Vermete of Braintree and Robert Pacitti and his wife, Sharen of Quincy; also survived by many nieces & nephews.
