Mary "Mamie" (Costello) Fenton

In Dorchester and South Boston, formerly of Carraroe, Co. Galway, Ireland, died peacefully on January 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at age 91. 

Mamie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years William "Willie” Fenton. 

Mamie was the adored Mum to William Fenton, Jr. and his wife Susan (Menino) of Dorchester, Margaret and her husband John Flaherty of Quincy, and Eileen Fenton and her partner Michael Kineavy of Dorchester and South Boston. 

She was the loving Mamie to six grandchildren, Giulia, Will, and Olivia Fenton, and Gabrielle Stoll and her husband Jimmy, Isabelle, and Cormac Flaherty. 

Mamie was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Costello, and the oldest of five siblings Padraic Costello, John Costello, Martin Costello, and her late sister Margaret “Baby” Costello, all of Co. Galway, Ireland. Mamie was the beloved sister-in-law to Brigid Hanrahan, Sally McCartney, and Martin Fenton, and the late Maura Roche and Patsy Fenton. 

Mamie was born on December 28, 1933, and emigrated from Ireland to Boston in 1960. She loved her native Ireland and spoke fluent Gaelic. Mamie’s beauty could have landed her a leading role in a Hollywood movie but she was happiest enjoying the simple things in life – spending time with her adoring family having tea and biscuits, and listening to Irish music. We should all Live Like Mamie. Ta´ gra´ agam duit Mum. 

Family and friends will honor and remember Mamie's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Margaret’s Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish on Thursday morning, January 30th, at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
