Maureen Naughton (Máirín Chuimín) Senuta

Maureen Naughton Senuta (Máirín Chuimín) of Dorchester, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Since her cancer diagnosis this past spring, she met each challenge with strength and grace. The unwavering support of her daughter Maura and many visits and messages from family and friends made the difficult days easier and created many happy memories.

A proud daughter of Connemara, Maureen was born on October 13, 1950, in Galway, Ireland. She emigrated from Ardmore, Ireland, first to England and then to Boston, arriving on July 4, 1970. She found her second home in Dorchester, where she made lifelong friends and met her husband, Robert (Bob).

Maureen worked at Carney Hospital, the Boston Home, and as a home health aide. Caring for others came naturally to her, and throughout her work she formed lasting connections with the people she cared for, their families, and her coworkers.

She built a life in Dorchester, a place she was proud to call home, raising her family and creating a community around her that extended far beyond relatives and neighbors. That sense of community followed Maureen wherever she went, into the places she worked, gathered, and spent her time.

Maureen’s most cherished titles throughout her life were daughter, wife, mother, grandmother (“Mamó”), sister, aunt, cousin, godmother, and friend.

She was the daughter of the late Máire and Cumeen Naughton and the beloved wife of Robert Senuta. Loving mother of Martin; Kevin and his wife, Francesca; and Maura and her partner, Ricardo; and the devoted Mamó of Alessandro and Julia.

Maureen was the beloved sister of Pete and his wife, Nora; Michael; Margaret; and Barbara, and was predeceased by her siblings Tom, Máirtín, Gerard, Kevin, Pádraig, Michael, and Ann. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and a cherished cousin to many in both Ireland and the United States. She leaves behind countless friends whose lives became intertwined with hers over the years, from Connemara to Kenya, Boston, and beyond.

There are no words that could fully capture Maureen or the impact she had on those fortunate enough to know her. Selfless, compassionate, kind, loving, quick-witted, and effortlessly funny, Maureen was the last to leave a party and could make a connection wherever she went. She had a rare gift for bringing people together. Strangers quickly became friends, and people from every walk of life were naturally drawn to her warmth, humor, and unmistakable spirit.

What set Maureen apart most was her extraordinary ability to connect with people. It did not matter where she was, what the occasion was, or where someone came from, Maureen found something in them worth knowing. She cherished people and their stories, and made everyone feel as though they mattered. Her warmth and magnetism are difficult to describe but impossible to miss. She never quite understood why so many people were drawn to her or why they loved her so deeply.

To everyone else, it was obvious.

That gift remained with her through her final days. Even then, she was remembering people, asking about others, cherishing old friendships, and forming new connections.

Maureen left every room, every gathering, and every life a little better than she found it. The connections she made, the friendships she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely will live on in the countless people who were lucky enough to know her.

Family and friends will honor and remember Maureen’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Margaret Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 800 Columbia Road, Dorchester, on Friday morning, October 2, 2026, at 10:00 A.M.

Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Maureen’s memory may be made to the Butterfly Children Fund or the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress, two causes close to her heart. Maureen never wanted attention focused on herself; she would want, instead, for that kindness to be passed along to others.
