Age 70, of Dorchester, MA entered eternal rest on October 28th, 2023 surrounded by family after an intrepid battle with cancer, pushing his body well beyond the expected limitations and making the most of the time he had.
Paul was born to the late William and Teresa (Guilfoy) Polito of Dorchester, MA on January 24, 1953. He was the second oldest of 6 children, the late William Polito, late Kenny Polito, late Thomas Polito, Janice Tkacik of Gilmanton, NH, and Donald Polito of Dorchester. He graduated from Boston Technical High School and later joined the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority where he worked for 30+ years until retirement in 2014.
His most important part of life came on July 7, 1977 when he met Janet Scannell at a local bar, which his wife would later recount he looked so young she thought he couldn’t be of legal drinking age. Five years later they were wed on Oct 2, 1982 at St Margaret’s Church in Dorchester. His proudest contribution in life was raising his three children, Thomas, Victoria, and Christina. He was the most devoted, present, and dedicated father, always making sure to be there for every hockey game, horse show, and school event. He always pushed them to work hard, study at school, or else they could “wake up and go to work” with him.
Paul was an avid boater, he enjoyed nothing more than a hot, July day on the water heading to Rainsford Island in the Boston Harbor with a cold Bass Ale and WZLX playing on the radio. He was the longest standing commodore of the Dorchester Yacht Club and a life time member where he spent most of his time when escaping work. He was a main stay down the DYC, surrounded by many friends, known to have a good time, many laughs, and a few Limoncello Jell-O shots.
He leaves behind his trusted companion Wookie and a family that adored him, his wife Janet of 41 years, son Thomas and wife Christina Polito of Hyde Park, daughter Tori and husband Samuel Peplin of Princeton, NJ, and daughter Christina and husband Matthew of Macungie, PA. His legacy will live on through his 5 grandchildren who will forever miss their Papa, Valerie and Connor Holub, Joanna and Luke Peplin, and Danny Polito. He also leaves behind his sister Janice and brother Donald, and many extended family members including nieces and nephews.
Dad- I hope you’re up there causing havoc with your brothers and other Port Rats. There’s nothing but blue skies and calm waters where you are, crack open a Bass Ale and watch over us, we will continue to keep your memory alive and your contagious spirit and love for a “good time”.
Family and friends will honor and remember Paul’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Avenue, DORCHESTER, on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann Church, 251 Neponset Avenue, Dorchester, on Tuesday morning, November 7th, at 10:00 A.M.
Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. Immediately following the burial, a reception will be held at the Dorchester Yacht Club for close family and friends.
