McCARTHY, Rosemary E. (Dowling). Of Duxbury, formerly of Savin Hill, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness on August 22, 2022.
Beloved wife of Michael J. McCarthy for 49 years.
Loving mother of Kerri M. and her husband Dan Szafran of Duxbury and Michael P. and his wife Julie McCarthy of Braintree.
Devoted "Nana" of Ashleigh Rose and Anna Kate Szafran, Bobby, James, and William McCarthy.
Daughter of the late John B. Dowling and Rosemary J. (Crowley) Dowling.
Sister of Margaret "Chickie" and her husband David Searles of Marshfield, John B. Dowling III and his wife Ellen Dowling of North Grafton, and Ralph and his wife Michelle Dowling of Stoneham.
Sister-in-law of Mary McCarthy and her husband Vince Coviello, Paul McCarthy and his companion Jan Fitzpatrick, Patty and her husband Rich Mitchell, and Sheila McCarthy and her husband Ron Mattice.
Rosemary is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends will honor and remember Rosemary's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Interment will be private.
Rosemary was raised in Savin Hill and proudly graduated from St. William Grammar School, Class of 1965, and Mount St. Joseph Academy, Class of 1969. She later received a Bachelor's Degree from Harvard University in 2007, a dual degree in Psychology and History. She was recognized, with her late mother, for being the first mother-daughter tandem to graduate in the same class year from Harvard.
In addition to being a beloved wife, mother, and "Nana", she was a talented watercolorist.
