Steven Booth Kalb

November 3, 1955 — July 18, 2024

Boston

Of Boston, Massachusetts, died on July 18, 2024, at the age of 68 years, at his home.

Steve was born in Englewood, New Jersey, on November 3, 1955, the second of three children of Frederick and Katherine Kalb, and spent much of his early life in Bergen County, New Jersey. He attended Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, New Jersey, and graduated from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, with a bachelor’s degree in 1977.

Steve enjoyed a 30-year career with Mediahub (formerly Mullen/MullenLowe), a global media agency, retiring as Senior Vice President, Director of Video Investments, in 2020. He had recently rejoined Mediahub to assist with special projects.

Steve spent much of his adult life in Boston, where he loved spending time with friends and family. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his unparalleled gift for storytelling, where he would often leave his audience in stitches after an amusing anecdote told with his signature embellishments. From the time he was a child right up until the time of his passing, he was the true “life of the party” at numerous family events.

He redefined the term “hardworking” in his thirty-plus year career in advertising, and was dedicated to his work throughout his life. Many of his colleagues recalled him as “the nicest guy in the media business.”

A modest person, Steve quietly and without fanfare went about helping others. His generosity and loyalty to those in need often went unnoticed, but Steve cared deeply for others and gave generously of his time and talents to mentor relatives and colleagues and help friends in need. He was adored by many, and his sudden passing leaves a void in many people’s lives.

A tribute created by his company upon his retirement perfectly summed up Steve’s life and his effect on people. It began with the words: “Hey, Steve. You are loved. Signed, Everyone.”

Steve is survived by a brother, Michael Kalb of Ellington, Connecticut; nephews Nicholas D. Kalb, of Tolland, Connecticut, and Michael Kalb of Oneonta, New York; nieces Michelle Kalb of Oneonta, New York, and Anmari Linardi of Oneonta, New York; and cousins John Foley of Hewitt, New Jersey; Janet Conroy of Guilford, Connecticut; Thomas Foley of Decatur, Georgia; James Foley of Hobe Sound, Florida; Lesile Stone of Hobe Sound, Florida; and Christopher Stone of Lilburn, Georgia; and numerous young relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and by a brother, Douglas F. Kalb, of Voorheesville, New York.

Family and friends will honor and remember Steve by gathering for a visitation in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
