Of Weymouth, formerly of Lower Mills, Dorchester, died peacefully at home on September 4, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 95 years.
Beloved husband of the late Mary T. (Hosea) O’Hara.
Loving father of Thomas F. O’Hara Jr. and his wife Sandy of North Weymouth, Paul O’Hara and his wife Bridget of Loganville, Georgia, Judy O’Hara of Marina Bay, and Lenny O’Hara and his late wife Sue of South Weymouth.
Devoted “Grandpa” to Amy and her husband John McSweeney, Christine O’Hara, Michael and his wife Barbara O’Hara, Katie O’Hara, Nick O’Hara and his wife Taylor, Kenneth O’Hara, Daniel O’Hara, Tana and Benjamin Blumberg, Adam Forrester, and Kyle Forrester.
Great-grandfather of Chloe, Delia, Grayson, Emma, Bella, Mason, Rylie, Michael, Peyton, Aleigha, Conner, Kinsley, Rowan, Simone, and Josie.
Son of the late John J. O’Hara and Katherine A. (Raftery) O’Hara of County Galway, Ireland.
Brother of the late Rita McGrimley and her late husband Judge Thomas McGrimley, John and his wife Katherine O’Hara, and Joseph O’Hara.
Survived by nieces Kathleen Rains and Patricia McGrimley, and nephews Thomas McGrimley, Jack McGrimley, and Joseph (O’Hara) Berg.
Loving cousin of the Manning and Walsh Families.
Lifelong friend and honorary member of the Kelley Family.
Family and friends will honor and remember Whitey’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Gregory Church, 2215 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, on Tuesday morning, September 10th, at 10:00 A.M.
Burial will follow with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15 P.M.
Whitey was a proud veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a Past Commander of the Lower Mills VFW Post #8699. He was a retired Lead Lineman for the MBTA for 29 years, and a member of the IBEW Union Local # 104 for 76 years and Teamsters Union Local #25. He was also a former employee of South Shore Loam and Gravel. After retirement, he enjoyed his many trips to Marco Island, Florida.
Whitey’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Marven Charles with It’s Good to Be Home Inc. and Erika with the NVNA for their compassionate care over the past few months.
