FENTON, William J. "Willie". In Dorchester, formerly of Carraroe, Co. Galway, Ireland, died peacefully on June 9, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, age 89 years.
Beloved husband of 52 years of Mary "Mamie" (Costello) Fenton.
Adored Dad to William Fenton Jr. and his wife Susan (Menino) of Dorchester, Margaret and her husband John Flaherty of Quincy, and Eileen Fenton and her partner Michael Kineavy of Dorchester and South Boston.
Loving Papa to six grandchildren, Giulia, Will, and Olivia Fenton, and Gabrielle, Isabelle, and Cormac Flaherty.
Willie was the son of the late John and Bridget (Mogan) Fenton.
He was the oldest of six children and he adored his siblings, Brigid Hanrahan, Maura Roche, and Sally McCartney, all of New York, Martin Fenton of Co. Galway, and the late Patrick Fenton.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Willie was born on May 3, 1929 in Carraroe, Co. Galway, Ireland, and emigrated from his beloved Ireland to New York in 1960, and on to Boston a few years later. He loved his native Ireland and was an avid reader and life-long learner. He spoke fluent Gaelic and had a passion for geography, history, and local and international politics. He was a proud member of the Carpenters Union Local #33 in Boston for more than 50 years. Willie was always game for some good "Ol Craic agus Ceol" and will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
Family and friends will honor and remember Willie's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Wednesday from 5-8 P.M.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Margaret Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish on Thursday morning, June 14th, at 10 A.M.
Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
